Carter Shocket is a trans and queer interdisciplinary artist from North Carolina living and working in Brooklyn, New York.
His work explores queer theory and trans experience through woven sculpture, tapestry, and installation. He’s interested in the otherwordly reality that transness can usher in— something he calls the trans supernatural.
He works on a four harness floor loom to weave new textiles, experimenting with paper, plastic, nylon rope, party streamers, and more. He then sculpts these textiles into sculptures and installations using hand sewing and a sewing machine.
