Boys, a solo exhibition of paintings by Ginger Snow Semmelhack, invites viewers into a world imagined from the outside. Through playful, surreal scenes that blur the line between horseplay and affection, Semmelhack reinterprets masculinity as something tender, physical, and strangely liberating. Drawn from childhood observations and private longings, the paintings in Boys reflect a fantasy of male connection: boys tangled in ritual, gesture, and closeness, moving through space with a physical freedom and familiarity. It’s a vision born not from experience, but from a distance. These works aren’t a documentation, but a meditation on feelings of alienation and envy as a woman in predominantly male spaces. Boys, explores how gender shapes our relationships and how that closeness, while it can be binding, can simultaneously be isolating. This exhibition explores the softness of platonic love through a rose-tinted female gaze.
